Our popular Christmas Quiz was another wonderful evening with lots of singing and fun. We raised over £500 for the choir. Congratulations to the winning team the Ice Bears. Thanks to everyone who brought donations for the local Food Bank and big love to Stevie and Shell for doing all the organising and cooking!
It is always an honour to sing at the annual World AIDS Day service at St John’s on Timberhill.
Several of us represented Sing with Pride at the Sing Norfolk Come & Sing Together event with the marvellous Chris Rowbury.
We were excited to take part in the 15th Norwich Pride. We had a stall just inside the Forum all day and performed in the Harvey Milk Lounge (the Gallery) at 2.45pm. The Harvey Milk Lounge was hosted by the lovely Kimberley Moore. We were delighted to see our beloved Lizzie’s baby niece in the audience and she posed with us for the group photo.
It was great to sing at Broadland District Council and South Norfolk Council for the raising of their Progress flags to celebrate Norwich Pride.
Charlie our Musical Director has written a song with the Opening Doors Advocacy Group for LGBT+ people with learning disabilities and autism. They invited us to sing it with them at their Happy, Healthy, Safe Day at the Forum. We had a great time.
Stevie and Jane from the choir have been making a quilt with the local Amnesty International group celebrating their 50th anniversary. They had a workshop at the Makers Festival in the Forum where people could sew on the names of countries in the world where it is illegal to be LGBT+. The countries in black are where people can face the death penalty. They invited us to sing around their table which delighted all those sewing or passing by.
Saturday 4th of February 2023 was the official launch of Queer Norfolk! At 6pm, the Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library became the queerest place in town when around 70 queer history superfans turned up to show their support for the project. We were pleased to be there singing some OUT140 songs and giving out OUT140 books. We did a special performance of the “Bisexual” OUT140 song to celebrate the recent news that the Census has shown that Norwich is the bisexual capital of the UK! We had a fantastic time at this year’s Christmas Quiz in our new venue the Silver Rd Community Centre. Stevie’s delicious veggie chilli supper was as amazing as ever and we raised over £500 to keep the choir accessible to all. The Winners were the cast of Queers which is a play that will be on at the Sewell Barn Theatre in January. We’re going to have a choir outing to it. We were so delighted by how brilliantly people responded to our call-out to bring sweets and biscuits for the Christmas parcels at the Silver Rd Community Foodbank.
We remembered lost friends at tonight’s World AIDS Day Service at St John the Baptist Church, Timberhill. We sang the Cyndi Lauper song True Colours and Gentle Angry People by Holly Near. Here we are afterwards with the Lord Mayor of Norwich Dr Kevin Maguire and Fr Richard Stanton.
